What is this site:
• On this site you can recommend music to your friends (through your own personal music recommendation feed), and discover new music by seeing what your friends have recommended (by subscribing to their feeds, through email or rss).
• This is not a music sharing site.  We presume that users can find any recommended music on their own.  (There are currently various legal options for access to great wealths of music.)  Where recommendations are legally available on the internet, we encourage posters to link to these places.
• Essential to this site is the conversation of recommending music. Users have the option to be notified (by rss or by email) when their friends recommend music. So you'll know immediately - without having to constantly check back at this site - when your friends recommend something new.

James Newton Howard - Lady In The Water (soundtrack)
I realize my first three rec's were all soundtracks, but I've been writing a TON of papers for seminary, and I can't do lyrics when writing. I'll move on to a different genre now.

Klaus Badelt - Rescue Dawn (soundtrack)
Haven't seen the film yet, but I love the soundtrack. Amazon recommended it to me based on a couple of other CD purchases I had made. They were right.

Clint Mansell - The Fountain (Soundtrack)
Amazing movie. Amazing soundtrack. The Kronos Quartet is heavily featured in this soundtrack. They were also featured (slightly less so) in another Clint Mansell soundtrack, "Requiem for a Dream", also directed by Darron Aronofsky.

PJ Harvey - White Chalk - Grow, Grow, Grow
An artist with very good vocals, and this song brings it out.

Reverend and the Makers - The State of Things - The Machine
Kind of electro-funk.  This song is pretty great for doing mindless data entry.

The 1900s - Cold & Kind
Pretty and kinda folky.

One of most just-plain-beautiful albums I've listened to in a long, long time.

Taizé - Venite Exultemus - Gott Ist Nur Liebe (Bog Jest Miloscia)
This is probably my favorite Taizé song ever. Among the amazingness is the application of the typical Taizé technique of altering lyrics across languages to make them meaningful and musically appropriate even if the words change. Compare, for instance, the

Lizzie West - Holy Road
I have a standing theory about the progression of how music sounds the more you listen to a given artist or album.  I've listened to Lizzie West a lot (comparatively), and the music still keeps getting better.

Neko Case - Furnace Room Lullaby and Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
This is an obvious / old one for me, but if you choose not to listen to Neko Case, I would be forced to conclude that you lack a soul. And she's magical (and funny) live.

Patsy Cline
I freakin' love Patsy Cline. Crazy, I Fall To Pieces, Walking After Midnight, She's Got You... I'm starting with the classics and moving on from there.

Bodies of Water - Ears Will Pop & Eyes Will Blink
Happy multi-instrumental awesomeness. Kind of like Polyphonic Spree.

Rilo Kiley's Under the Blacklight
At first I found it disappointing, and wondered why I had bought it. At some point it dawned on me that though I don't like the apparent single (The Moneymaker), I really like the rest of the album.

I wanna rock
Twisted Sister.  Absolutely.  Best rock video I have seen in the last 5 minutes.

Pat Seick and the Coyotes (available at myspace.com/patseickandthecoyotes
My old friend Jaala is Pat Seick's girlfriend, and at least plays sax with the band. Some random Seattle kids living communally and trying to create rock. I particularly dig 'The Kingdom,' and a couple of other tracks not currently available on myspace.

Sufjan Stevens' Songs for Christmas
Mostly favorites, some originals, lots of tiny silly ditty-style tracks, but I bought the CD set and for $20 got 42 tracks, 10 of which made it worthwhile. As one who loves hymns as much as any music, this may be the best disc ever.

Ali Farka Touré - Talking Timbuktu
one of my stand-by's lately. "Ai Du" is the geo-quiz song on NPR's The World.
